1. Use non-chlorine bleached environmentally responsible paper for all your printing
2. Identify a paper collection point(s) in the office for recycling bins to dispose of waste paper
3. Use energy saving lighting
4. Make maximum use of daylight and always switch off the lights at the end of the day
5. Avoid using plastic cups and disposable products where you can
6. Use rechargeable batteries
7. Ensure your electrical equipment is Energy Star compliant
8. Don’t have the air conditioning on at the same time as the heating!
9. Ensure monitors, PCs, photocopiers and printers are switched off at night
10. Enable power saving features on your computer monitor if you are not typing (rather than a screen-saver, which saves your screen but not your energy!)
11. Buy goods with a recycled or reconditioned content
12. Include eco-criteria in major purchases
13. Ensure proper maintenance of office equipment to enable them to work more efficiently
14. Buy products that keep packaging to a minimum
15. Implement a simple recycling scheme. Check out ICER (Industry Council for Electronic Equipment recycling) – www.icer.org.uk
16. Use proof and hold to ensure a document is correct before printing a long print run
17. Set your printer’s or copier’s sleep mode, so when it’s not actually printing/copying the energy consumption is minimal
18. Use ECO-Toner for draft documents to reduce the amount of toner used
19. Don’t overprint documents. Take care to calculate how many copies you really need to cut down on wastage
20. Print and photocopy using a double sided or using n-up layout wherever possible to reduce paper wastage and cost.
